Rodgers and Perez on the Grammy Trail

New Jersey based Rodgers and Perez Music Publishers and their album Viaticus were granted admission to first ballot in the process for the Grammy Award.  The album qualified for an astonishing thirteen categories.

The news came as a big surprise for the new company, which began two years ago and has been periodically consulting with their attorney Richard P. Dieguez.

Some of the categories and songs in the running include:

Album Of The Year
Viaticus

Song Of The Year
Different One (Female)

Record Of The Year
We Want You

Best Male Pop Vocal Performance
Holding Hands

Best Pop Collaboration With Vocals
Things Ain't Workin'

Best Female R&B Vocal Performance
Different One (Female)

Best Pop Collaboration With Vocals
Touch

How The Process Works

Despite the excitement of the news, however, the reality of where Viaticus stands is all too clear to Rodgers and Perez. The album entry is number 24,888 with much decision making still to be done at the Grammy organization (The National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences).

At first ballot, the approved entries are sent to the voting membership of the academy where the totals determine the five nominees for each category.  A second and final ballot is sent out to determine the winner.  The winners are a secret to everyone until they are revealed on Grammy night -- everyone except the independent accounting firm doing the tabulation.

However, sources at the Grammys did say that, with 13 approved entries, the likelihood is good for at least one nomination.  "To become a nominee is enough for us," says Perez.  A bronze medallion is awarded to all who receive a Grammy nomination.

Viaticus

Viaticus, a compilation of rock, pop, R&B and other genres is currently available at cdbaby.com, overplay.com (UK) and now on iTunes.

Perez said that Viaticus II, which will lean more towards R&B, is currently in production with auditions being held for various singers.  Info on Rodgers and Perez is available at rodgersandperez.org.

"The only reason I was able to make these entries is that I formed a publishing company and only a publisher may submit material to the Grammy office," explained Perez.
