Chris Barron of The Spin Doctors:
Unplugged and A Wealth of Information

  Photo:  David Weissner
Attendees at The Circle got to meet Chris Barron, lead singer of The Spin Doctors, in an up-close and personal setting.

The Grammy-nominated songwriter treated the audience to an unplugged performance of Can't Kick The Habit, from his newly released CD, Pancho and the Kid

He also played one of his big hits, Two Princes, and then went on to give the inside story behind a multi-million dollar lawsuit he and the band won against Miller Brewing Company for its copyright infringement of that song.

The lawsuit went on for close to three years and involved "thousands and thousands and thousands " of documents, explained Barron.  Miller argued that their commercial did not infringe because "Two Princes" was not an original song to begin with.  Using a musicologist, Miller tried to persuade the jury that The Spin Doctors' hit was "substantially similar" to other songs such as Straighten Up and Fly Right.

Barron explained in detail -- sometimes with great humor -- how those arguments were dismantled, which enabled the jury to rule in his band's favor after a six hour deliberation.

"Two Princes" along with Little Miss Can't Be Wrong were huge hits for The Spin Doctors.  Their album,  Pocket Full of Kryptonite, went multi-platinum in the United States alone.
