Michael Berniker

Mr. Berniker has been the Sony Music Vice President of A&R Special Projects since 1992.  However his prolific professional career currently spans 43 years within the music industry.  His musical vision and talent has earned him multiple Grammy awards and nominations.

He signed such popular artists as Hall and Oates, Michael Bolton, Juice Newton, Dr. Buzzard's Original Savannah Band (nominated for a Grammy/Best New Group in 1976), as well as Aztec Two-Step and Odyssey.

Mr. Berniker has proven his adaptability and creative vigor to a myriad of musical styles and artists.  He has interfaced and produced Grammy winning albums with Pop artists Barbara Streisand, Brenda Lee, Edye Gorme, Perry Como; Broadway productions like The Will Rogers Follies, "The Life" and most recently coproduced the original cast album of the new Broadway hit -"Movin' Out"; films like "Napoleon"; classical music like "Public Television's Greatest Hits"; religious/seasonal music like Radio City Music Hall's Christmas Spectacular"; and even comedy with the legendary Jackie Mason.

He originated and launched the Columbia Jazz Masterpiece Series, which is considered the most successful reissue series as attested by its Platinum record sales exceeding millions of dollars. This work embodies musical works from legendary masters such as Billie Holiday and Miles Davis. This musical enterprise gave birth to the Contemporary Jazz Masterpieces with artists such as Weather Report and the "Roots 'N' Blues" line with Robert Johnson - The Complete Recordings, another Grammy and Gold record recipient.  Throughout the evolution of these successful enterprises, the multi-talented Mr. Berniker has been responsible not only for the musical philosophy but cover design.

Not shy to explore and show his creative genius, Mr. Berniker broke ground in 1984 when he recorded the Broadway play "The Real Thing" with Jeremy Irons and Glenn Close.  This work received a Grammy nomination that year for the Best Spoken Word.  The following year Mr. Berniker won the Grammy in that category for his efforts in "Ma Rainey's Black Bottom."
