Gaye Carleton

"When a mantra is repeated over a period of time, it alters perception, and that's exactly what an effective public relations campaign does." So says, Gaye Carleton, president and founder of Mantra, Empowered Public Relations. Mantra is a boutique agency with big ideas, far-reaching expertise and extensive contacts enabling it to cross promote clients from the performing arts to beauty to business and beyond.

In the past 14 years, the company has grown sevenfold.  "It used to be that savvy business owners wouldn't consider being in business without an attorney and an accountant.  Today, you can add PR to that mix," explains Ms. Carleton.

Born and raised in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, her early experience there included her being hired as Executive Director of the Arts Alliance of Bucks County dealing heavily with public relations and writing grants.

She later moved to California and got involved booking San Francisco and L.A. bands to Japan and back.  Her talent as a publicist and her lifelong love of music led to PR work in New York handling Phil Collin's "No Jacket Required" tour, Richie Havens' 25th Anniversary performances, and the U.S. premiere of Orchestral Maneuvers In The Dark (OMD).  The success of that work launched the opening of her public relations firm in 1987 specializing in the fields of music, arts and entertainment.

Past and present clients of Mantra include Rockapella, Zero Hour Records, The Dutch Rock Foundation, and The Glenn Miller Orchestra.  Recent client placements include The Oprah Magazine, The Today Show, National Public Radio, CNN, The New York Times and many more.

Ms. Carleton's expertise is widely recognized.  She was a regularly featured PR expert on New York1 News and an Associate Professor of Publicity at the Fashion Institute of Technology.
