MySpace Music Marketing
By Bob Baker

MySpace Music Marketing by Bob Baker is a valuable tool for any musician.  The book is simple, easy to read and speaks to its readers in a conversational tone: a feat not easily accomplished while explaining computer and internet terminology as well as the complicated business of music promotion.

It runs through the plethora of features available on the website for music promotion such as adding friends, leaving comments, posting bulletins, keeping a blog, adding show schedules and songs to your page and more.

In addition to outlining the traditional uses of all of the site's features, Baker also offers helpful hints for the music promoter such as making an audio track that samples a few seconds of a bunch of songs or adding a live link to your own website on your MySpace page.

Baker's guide is written in such a way that even the most inexperienced computer rookie can follow its directions.  The book would be equally as helpful if read before ever setting up an account with MySpace or if kept next to the computer for reference while on the site.
The first few pages of this book answered the most frequently asked question about MySpace, even among experienced users:  who is "Tom," the mysterious first friend that everyone gets but that no one is actually friends with?  Baker explains that Tom Anderson is a musician himself, an industry veteran, and a film school graduate-all of which help to demystify why he founded a website that lends itself so well to music promotion as well as social networking.

Baker surveyed 30 artists, managers and promoters for their best MySpace Music Marketing Tips and included all of their full length responses.  He notes that while some of the answers contradict each other, it is best to take in all of their advice and then pick what works for you.
The most important thing to learn from Baker's guide is that no single feature on MySpace is most important.  It's the combination the number of friends, the frequency and content of your comments, the timely update of your blog and show schedule, and the overall look, feel and sound of your page that will make your MySpace music marketing successful.
