6 Steps To
Songwriting Success
by Jason Blume |
|
|
|
|
|
The outstanding book, 6 Steps
to Songwriting Success, by Jason Blume, is a step-by-step guide
to composing a hit song. Blume starts at the very beginning when
he explains the basic structure and patterns of a great song.
He goes into specifics about the verse, chorus, and bridge, comparing
their development to the unfolding of a story. He also
explains that a songwriter needs to show listeners what she or
he feels, rather than say, "I feel like this." In
addition, creating wording and imagery play a significant part
in making a hit song. However, he tends to be a little
too structural and implies that a song must follow his guidelines
in order for it to succeed. |
|
|
In the latter part of this section,
the author goes into detail about effective rhyme schemes. When
you write a song you need to be honest and casual with your listeners.
He discourages changing the lyrics to fit the rhyme, at
the expense of making the language awkward. The book goes
on to define the different kinds of rhymes such as masculine,
feminine, slant, and triple. To write an exceptional song,
one needs to be original. This guide tells how to incorporate
fresh ideas into an old theme. |
|
|
The last section of Blume's book
discusses recording your song onto a demo, marketing, and facing
rejection. Blume describes the importance of choosing the right
person to sing your song and how to budget your time and money.
He also gives tips on how to "pry open doors"
and submit tapes to unwilling managers. This guide primarily
stresses the importance of pursuing your career in writing, rather
than giving up. If you must rewrite something a hundred
times then you are already a hundred times closer to success.
No one gets overnight stardom or an instant hit, and if
you do, it is sheer luck. It is necessary to keep going
and to let rejection strengthen you, Blume says. |
|
|
This guide is elaborate enough
to change you from an amateur state of mind to a more professional
one. It is very well written and will definitely aid you
in your song writing. |
