Make It Happen In Hip-Hop & Rap Produced by Dick D'Anjolell |

| I always got a kick out of this video, because a number of the executives who are interviewed are either clients or colleagues with whom I have done business. So much of what they explain in this video is exactly what I have heard them say in person. So I can personally vouch for the credibility and the wisdom of the content. Moreover, there are certain things unique to the video format that give it an edge over books. I won't get into it here, but you can read about it in my review of another highly recommended video produced by Mr. D'Anjolell. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| The talking heads includes producers, record executives from major and independent labels, a lawyer, and music publishing executives. Recording artist Kris Parker p/k/a KRS-One is prominently featured, who provides an animated perspective from the talent side. Topics discussed include how to get connected, artist management, songwriting, and -- of course -- sampling. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| The video also rolls a comprehensive address and phone list of music industry conferences, performing rights societies, trade publications and directories. And don't worry about being bored. Breaks are taken by showing a Rap music video clip -- a nice bonus to by providing some eye-and-ear candy, while the brain chills. Sure, some of the references made in the video, might be dated. "Make It Happen In Hip-Hop & Rap," after all, was produced in 1995 -- an eon of time in Rap years. But there's plenty of unchanging meat-and-potatoes information here that transcends the rapid evolution of this uniquely American genre. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
