To A Record Label From A To Z By Daylle Schwartz |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| The extremely varied and unconventional career of Daylle Schwartz, the author of 'The Real Deal', immediately attracted my interest in this book. Starting out as a teacher, Schwartz launched a career as a rap artist - an unusual occupation for a white woman. Now, while she continues to teach, she is also president of her own record label. In my eyes this already makes the book a valuable source of information, as Schwartz is in the position to give many different perspectives on the music industry both the successful side, and the experience of being a musician who is starting out with absolutely no contacts. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| I found that Schwartz fully uses her experiences to the reader's advantage, as she talks on the various steps you need to take to launch a recording career and land a record deal. In each chapter, she dispels a different myth of the music business, giving no-nonsense advice on such subjects as the importance of image to an artist's success, and the components of a good press kit. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Schwartz definitely doesn't pull any punches, telling the reader that if you want to make money as a musician, then you have to pander to the demands of the market, regardless of your artistic integrity! She encourages artists to be honest with themselves as to whether they really believe they have what it takes, and gives really valuable advice, such as the futility of asking your friends for an honest opinion on your material! Throughout the book Schwartz includes pieces of advice from music stars and professionals, combining the benefits of their experience with her own. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
