Indie Marketing Power
by Peter Spellman

Peter Spellman and I got connected many years ago through Creem co-founder Dave Marsh.  Since then we've kept in touch on and off.  I knew Peter as the Director of Career Development at the Berklee College of Music.  But it took Indie Marketing Power for me to realize that he is also a fine writer committed to helping the independent artist and entrepreneur thrive and prosper.
This 386 page resource guide delivers what it promises:  to maximize your music marketing.  Whether you are a novice or battle-scarred veteran, you will definitely come away from the book with more ideas and techniques.  "The Challenge of Finding Your Market Niche" for example, is a section that everyone should read.  I can't tell you how many times I have had to help over-enthusiastic clients from trying to conquer too many markets with too little money and expertise.  It's much more practical to zero-in on a niche that you can fill with excellence and expand from there.
"Developing a Marketing Mindset" is another key section.  When I consult with artists, their world-view naturally leans toward being all about the music.  When I consult with businesspeople, their world-view tends to be more bottom-line oriented.  Both views are important.  But neither view will result in success unless it is filtered through a marketing mindset.  The opportunities are there, but so many are missed if you don't train yourself on how and where to look.
Indie Marketing Power is a must-read.  Space here is too limited for me to really do it justice in a review.  A full table of contents is available for view by clicking here, where you can also order a copy.
