The Encyclopedia of Record Producers
By Carlo Wolff

You have read all of the "How To" books. You are now ready to break into the music industry. But before you do, it is wise to learn all you can about the people who are instrumental in creating award winning and musically satisfying compositions.  These extraordinary people are the record producers.  And the Encyclopedia of Record Producers by Eric Olson, Paul Verna, and Carlo Wolff, is just the book you need. There are over 400 names and biographies of the top producers in the music business.
This Encyclopedia gives the reader a brief explanation of the duties of a producer.  You will see that there are many capacities in which a producer can help the artist.  In the forward by Rupert Hine, the ways a producer can elicit music from the novice or a seasoned performer are explored. This should be kept in mind while browsing this book. These “top notch” producers have the ability to act in any capacity depending upon the specific artist. Many of the producers interviewed in this book elaborate on this subject.
Producers also engage themselves in a specific style of music. An artist in the jazz genre would not enlist the services of a producer who primarily works with Rock or Rap artists. The authors compiled a record, or song list of each producer interviewed. The artist can then become educated on the producers that are considered the crème of the crop in their particular genre.
This encyclopedia is a who’s who in the music producer industry and a must have for any aspiring musician.
